Using Mathematica from an Epoch Window

First, open an Epoch window, either from the main menu, or from the file manager, if you already have a Mathematica program that you want to edit and/or load into Mathematica.

To open an Epoch window from the main menu, put the arrow pointer on the background of your windows workspace, press the right mouse button and drag it on the Edit/View option to bring up a submenu. Highlight Epoch Editor... and release the mouse button.

To open an Epoch window from the file manager, double click the left mouse button on the icon representing the file that you want to edit and/or load into Mathematica.

Move the arrow pointer to the Epoch window, and click the left mouse button. Then press the Control key and the ``='' key at the same time (CTRL-=). On cantor and gauss, you may use the ``='' sign to the left of the BackSpace key, or the ``='' sign on the keypad. On godel and galileo, use the ``='' sign key located on the first row of the main keyboard.

A separate web document "Typesetting Mathematics via Latex Using ASCII Editor EMACS/EPOCH on the Suns" is available to help users get started using EMACS on the SUN in simple applications as well as in writing research reports.
