On the Macintosh system in Bell Hall 130, go to the Launcher
menu and click on Internet. Then click on Fetch
2.1.2. An Open Connection box will appear. Under
Host, enter math.utep.edu and then enter the user ID and password
that you use on the Sun Network System in the designated areas. It is
not necessary to enter any information on Directory, but if you
know the Sun directory of the file that you wish to retrieve, you can
enter it. For example, /home/banach/name/mathica/notebooks could be a
possible directory that contains a Mathematica Notebook file
that you wish to retrieve.
After the items in the Open Connection window have been
entered, click on Ok. Your banach directory from the Sun
Workstation will appear in the Fetch: math.utep.edu window. You are now able to open
the directory in which you wish to retrieve a Mathematica
Notebook file to use on the Macintosh system by double
clicking on it. Now click on the Notebook file you wish to retrieve.
Make sure that Text is marked in the bottom right hand corner
of this screen. Next, click on
the get file button to tell the computer to retrieve this file.
To store it on the Macintosh Desktop, make sure Desktop appears at the
top of the following window:
Enter the name under which you wish to store the file on the
Macintosh system. Note that
you must double check the extention of the file. For example, all
mathematica files to be used on the Macintosh normally have a .nb or .m
extension. After clicking
Save, your banach Mathematica Notebook file is
now saved on the Macintosh Desktop and is ready to be used. To exit Fetch, go to
the top on the main screen on the Macintosh, go to File and
select the Quit option.
