Using the Epoch Keyboard Macros

The following summarizes the usages of Epoch Keyboard Macros. A keyboard macro is a command defined by the user to stand for another sequence of keys. The chart attached to the keyboard above the function keys shows the usages of predefined keyboard macros corresponding to each function key.
As a user, you may redefine any key, but it might be best to stick to key sequences that consist of CTRL followed by a letter. These keys are "reserved for users", so they will not conflict with any properly designed Epoch or Emacs extension. If you redefine some other key, your definition may be overridden by certain extensions or major modes which redefine the same key.

A separate web document "Typesetting Mathematics via Latex Using ASCII Editor EMACS/EPOCH on the Suns" is available to help users get started using EMACS on the SUN in simple applications as well as in writing research reports. Refer to the section on "The most commonly used function key bindings" to see the list of the most commonly used template key bindings.
