Previous: Using the Epoch Template
The following summarizes the commands to log in on a Sun workstation,
bring up OpenWindows (X Windows) operating system interface, open a
command tool window and/or an Epoch window.
- godel (or cantor, or gauss, or galileo) login: username
- password: 1234567 (enter your
password)
- godel [guest]: openwin (install
OpenWindows)
- Once you are in OpenWindows, you can get help on just about
anything pertaining to built-in OpenWindows applications by moving
the mouse so that the arrow points to that part of the display you
are interested in and then pressing the large
Help key; the key
is in the bottom left corner of the keyboard on cantor and
gauss, and in the top left corner of the keyboard on
godel and galileo. A pop-up window will give you
information about the region the arrow was pointing to at the time
Help was pressed. To remove the help window, click the
left mouse button once on the pushpin or click the right mouse button
on the gray square with a triangle in it located at the upper left
corner of the notebook, then drag the pointer to the Quit option and
left click.
- To open a command window: Locate the mouse so that the arrow
appears in the background area of the screen. Click and hold the
right mouse button to obtain an option menu and drag the pointer to
the right and across the menu option Terms/Shells. A second menu
will appear with a vertical list of available programs. Still
holding the right mouse button down, position it over the option you
want to select, i.e., a Command Tool. Repeat the process to
open an Epoch window, found in the Edit/View option.
- To kill a graphics pop-up window generated by the Plot or Plot3D commands, position the pointer anywhere on the
window (except the frame) and click the left mouse button once on the
pushpin. To move a graphics window, position the pointer on the frame,
click and hold the left mouse button, move the arrow
by holding the button, then release it at the location desired.
