Grading Policy:

• Homework assignmments: 80% of your grade. You can consult with me on these homeworks, but not with other students. You can consult your text and other books or on-line resources.
• Comprehensive final exam (Dec 9-11): 20% of your grade. For on-line courses, there is little difference between exams and homework, except that I will not give you any help on the exam, and you will have less time (about 48 hours) to complete it.
• I will post my solutions to the homework assignments soon after they are due, and I will e-mail you a problem-by-problem breakdown of your HW grade. If you still are not sure what I took off for on a given problem, feel very free to ask me for an explanation. It is not feasible for me to mail all your homeworks back to you after grading each week, but you certainly have a right to know what you lost points for (but...see next point).
• There is an unavoidable element of subjectivity in the grading of proofs, sometimes you may lose points on a proof because it isn't sufficiently clear or is unnecessarily complicated, even when it is impossible to point to specific errors. Proof-writing is an art, and is only learned through practice, and by looking at good proofs, such as those in our text.

Submitting Homework

Homeworks are to be received by midnight on the due date, preferably via FAX (979-862-4190), but e-mail (PDF or PS file to sewell@math.tamu.edu) is also acceptable. Do NOT send MS Word documents, if you create your HW in MS Word, you should use the Word to PDF converter (free) at www.pdf995.com/download.html
