POSITION: ASSISTANT / ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR (STATISTICS)

DESCRIPTION:

The Department of Mathematical Sciences at The University of Texas at El Paso invites applications for a tenure-track position at the assistant or associate professor level starting Sept. 2008. Rank and salary will be commensurate with experience; research start-up funds are available. Qualifications for the position include a Ph.D. in Statistics or Biostatistics and excellent communication skills. Excellent teaching and an established research record is required for a senior level appointment. The department offers Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Mathematics, Applied Mathematics, Mathematics Education, Statistics, an Actuarial Science concentration, a Professional Master’s degree in Bioinformatics, and a Ph.D. in Computational Sciences should be in place beginning Fall 2008. We are seeking someone who will develop an independent research program in statistics, teach undergraduate and graduate courses in statistics, and  participate in consulting and collaborative research through The Statistical Consulting laboratory, www.academics.utep.edu/statlab.

POSITION: LECTURER

DESCRIPTION

The Department of Mathematical Sciences at The University of Texas at El Paso seeks to hire one or more lecturers beginning Fall 2008. These non-tenure-track positions carry a teaching load of fifteen hours each semester. The primary responsibility is the teaching of freshman and sophomore level mathematics courses. Good communication skills and excellence in teaching are essential. While all appointments are for one year, contract renewal can occur on an annual basis upon satisfactory performance, funding availability and departmental needs.

The minimum qualifications for the positions consist of a Master's degree in any field and at least 18 graduate semester hours in Mathematics; a Master's or Ph.D. degree in the Mathematical Sciences is preferred.

Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and/or past performance with a typical range of $38,000 to $43,000 per year.
