Information About the Undergraduate Program

The Department of Mathematical Sciences offers both the Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Science degrees in Mathematics and the Bachelor of Science in Applied Mathematics. The BS in Mathematics allows for concentrations in Actuarial Sciences, Statistics and Teacher Certification. The BA in Mathematics allows for a concentration in Teacher Certification.

The department has a history of successfully preparing students for graduate studies, for a teaching career, as well as for positions in industry.

The entire faculty consists of eight Professors, thirteen Associate Professors, and four Assistant Professors. Seventeen of the 37 faculty members have published research articles in refereed journals within the past three years and are designated "graduate" faculty; that is, also eligible to teach in the graduate program. The department has about a quarter of a million dollars in teaching related grants and close to one million in research related grants over a three year period.

The department has its own computing resources in Bell Hall in addition to the University Computer Center's IBM E 5/9000. The Mathematics department also has a new Computer Laboratory/Classroom with about 30 Macintosh computers for use in the undergraduate program.

Club Ø is our Mathematics students club. The club members meet weekly, organize student talks, play sports etc.
